Tiger Woods to no longer appear on EA games

EA Sports today confirmed their next PGA Tour game will not feature Tiger Woods’ name or image on the cover for the first time since the franchise debuted in 1999.

The developer and the American have made a mutual decision to end their relationship, EA Sports said in a statement.

Woods won five times on Tour in 2013 and was named Player of the Year, taking home more than $8.5 million in winnings during the season.

EA Sports said its partnership with the PGA Tour “remains strong” and EA will remain the exclusive developer of professional golf games.

The last Tiger-led version went on sale in March and includes a number of franchise-firsts, such as night golf, LPGA support, and a Legends of the Majors mode that allows players to travel back in virtual time to compete against icons like Bobby Jones and Jack Nicklaus.

“EA SPORTS and Tiger Woods have also made a mutual decision to end our partnership, which includes Tiger’s named PGA TOUR golf game. We’ve always been big fans of Tiger and we wish him continued success in all his future endeavors. Moving forward, we will continue to work with the PGA Tour exclusively to create groundbreaking golfing titles and our partnership remains strong.”
