UK golfers raise a record £678,000 for Macmillan cancer support

Charitable golfers across the UK have so far raised a fantastic £683,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support by braving the toughest battle in golf and completing the famous Longest Day Golf Challenge.

In their bid to complete the sponsored golf marathon, over 800 teams nationwide took to the green and played an epic four rounds of golf from dawn to dusk, tackling a whopping 72 holes, 300 shots and 20 mile walk on the longest day of the year.

Now the top four teams from the challenge have been invited, this October, to compete in the Longest Day Golf Challenge Finals, for the Challenge Cup, at the exclusive Boavista Golf Resort near Lagos in Portugal. This year players come from all corners of the UK including Northern Ireland, Scotland, Devon and Oxfordshire.

Claire Driscoll, Macmillan’s Golf Programme Manager said: “Last year was a recording breaking year so to raise more money again this year has been a fantastic achievement by all the players involved. They’ve worked hard to raise even more money for people affected by cancer. It’s simply amazing. Because of this support, we can make sure that no one faces cancer alone and everyone has a Macmillan team in their corner. Thank you to everyone who was involved with this year’s challenge.”
