European Senior Tour professional Gary Wolstenholme MBE (pictured) has emerged victorious in the first Celeb-Am tournament at this year’s Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship at Warwickshire’s Nailcote Hall.

Six-time Walker Cup veteran Wolstenholme hit a nearly flawless round of -4 to take the victory.

He was run close by host of the championship and two-time Major winner Tony Jacklin CBE, who rolled back the years and showed he still has a strong short game. Also high up on the leaderboard were Challenge Tour professional Mark Murphy, former Ryder Cup player Peter Baker and ex-Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel MBE.

Inspired by the performance of Wolstenholme, Farmfoods 2 were the winning team on the day with a combined total of -14. In second place were another team from the frozen food specialists, Farmfoods 2who had veteran American golfer Larry Laoretti as their celebrity

Purpose Media also performed strongly with Alan McInally as their celebrity and Matt Wheatcroft – the man who last year hit the ‘Golf Shot of the Year’ that went viral on YouTube – as their captain.

Today will see the first day of the Pro-Am Championship as players battle it out for their share of the £100,000 prize fund with an array of past and present European Tour stars competing for the spoils, including Ian Woosnam, Jacklin, 1999 Open champion Paul Lawrie, Ryder Cup assistant captain Des Smyth and new women’s golf sensation Charley Hull.
