We’ve teamed up with Adams Golf to give three lucky readers the chance to win a full set of its new Idea hybrid irons, each worth £499.
The company, who recently signed three-time Major champion Ernie Els, pioneered the use of slots behind the clubface to increase ball speeds. In the new Idea irons, these “Velocity Slots” feature heavily to enhance forgiveness and distance on off-centre hits.
Adams’ research found that the majority of 15-plus handicap golfers make contact with the ball nearly half-an-inch towards the toe on iron shots. Its new Idea irons feature a wraparound slot in the toe, creating more spring-like effect in this crucial area. They say that compared to the slot of its predecessor, the Idea a12 OS hybrid irons, the new Idea irons provide 44 per cent more ball speed on off-centre hits and 24 per cent more ball speed on centred strikes because of increased flex from the unsupported faces.
The hybrids in the set also feature Adams’ patented upside-down shape seen in the Tight Lies fairway woods. This puts more surface area lower on the face of the club where golfers generally make contact with the ball, which creates a lower centre of gravity that helps the ball launch higher, while reducing spin.
