Design your own golf course with The Golf Club game

How do you fancy designing your own golf course and then playing it at your leisure, with no one else chopping up your fairways or getting in your way? Now, thanks to new game The Golf Club, that dream can be a reality (a virtual one, at least), and you don’t need to be a multi-millionaire to make it happen.

The Golf Club’s course creator uses the same software used by Greg Norman when he’s designing courses – so if your creation ends up looking more like a pitch and putt than somewhere fit to host a Major, you’ll know it’s your fault, not the game. If course architecture isn’t your thing, you can download and play courses created by other players the world over.

Unlike most golf games, which come with a limited supply of courses you can quickly exhaust, there’s enough choice here to mean you could feasibly never play the same course twice.

On the course, the gameplay favours realism over the “boosts” and “afterspin” offered by the popular EA Sports’ PGA Tour series. This makes it more challenging to pick up and learn, but does mean a greater level of satisfaction is on offer. When you bomb a drive, stiff an iron or drain a long putt, you’ll know that it was all your own doing. Put in the practice and you will gradually start posting decent scores. Then it’s time to take your skills online and compete in tournaments against golfers worldwide.

The Golf Club is available now on PS4, Xbox One and PC for £26.99. Design your dream course and you could win a fourball at the London Club; all you have to do is create an 18-hole course in The Golf Club to be judged by Today’s Golfer and Golf World’s editors on the following criteria:

  • Realism
  • Playability
  • Creativity
