Time flies when you're having fun and the clock is ticking with the British Masters drawing ever closer.
This year's event runs from Thursday October 13th to Sunday October 16th with Luke Donald, former World Number One, returning to The Grove in his role as tournament Ambassador.
Founded in 1946, the British Masters was originally referred to as the Dunlop Masters, and was a continuation of the Dunlop-Metropolitan Tournament which had been held before World War II. The Masters was a 72-hole end-of-season event with a restricted field.
The tournament was held every year up to 2008, except for 1984, and was played at many prestigious golf courses around the United Kingdom. Its name changed frequently after Dunlop’s sponsorship ended in 1982.
During the 1980s the British Masters was one of the most lucrative events on the European Tour with a prize fund that was as high as third among the tournaments on the schedule.
The tournament experienced a hiatus between 2009 and 2014, but returned to the European Tour’s schedule in 2015, where it was hosted by Ian Poulter at Woburn from 8 to 11 October. The event saw young a certain Matt Fitzpatrick claim his maiden professional title.
The Grove, set in 300 acres of Hertfordshire countryside only 18 miles from central London, houses a luxury five-star hotel, golf course, spa, restaurants and extensive function space. Lovingly restored to stunning effect, the property fuses contemporary design and original period architecture with exceptionally caring and professional service.
The tournament will feature a stellar line-up of European Tour stars - including Olympic champion, Justin Rose, who will take on the parkland course designed by renowned architect Kyle Phillips.
To mark the event the European Tour Travel Club (ETTC) is offering golfers a unique opportunity at the Grove.
