You CAN cure your slice!

What’s the most destructive shot in golf? A shank is pretty bad. Knifing one over the back of a green after a perfect drive makes my heart sink. And three-putting from eight feet not only costs you a shot, it’s really annoying! But for a majority of club players, a slice is the most persistent – and ultimately costly – bad shot. And not just because up to 80 per cent of us hit one.

According to the stat tracking experts at Shot Scope, slicing one into the trees is wrecking your card. Even if you can reign back your left-to-right shape so it finishes in the right rough, you will (on average) hit it four times closer to the flag with your next shot…

Distance, too, is a huge slice casualty. If you hit more hybrids than 8-irons into greens from the right-handed rough, it’s because that weak, curving flight is costing you up to 60 yards compared to a straight drive, according to TrackMan.

As we approach the winter, and you reflect on another season of missed fairways and being the shortest driver in your group, absorb the advice in this issue. Try the tips. Perhaps demo a draw driver at your local pro shop. Think differently when you’re on the tee…

It will all help you curb that slice, which will ultimately lead to lower scores – and more fun.
