Rory McIlroy, without a Major win since 2014, heads to St Andrews as the tournament favourite and will be playing in an Open on the Old Course for the first time since 2010.

THE OPEN 2022: Tee times and groups

Jon Rahm and Scottie Scheffler are among others expected to content for their second Major victories, along with Matt Fitzpatrick, who won golf’s last men’s Major at the US Open.

Tiger Woods won The Open at St Andrews in 2000 and 2005.

And, inevitably, all eyes will be on Tiger Woods as he returns to the hallowed turf where he tasted victory in 2000 and 2005, and tees it up competitively for the first time since the US PGA Championship in May. Will he make the cut? Could he even contend? We can’t wait to see.
