The Open 2023: The weather forecast for Royal Liverpool

The first two rounds at the 151st Open draw to a close with the weather holding off so far, will it be the same going into the weekend.

The Open Championship’s return to Hoylake had so far enjoyed its fair share of rain and lesser wind conditions on Monday and Tuesday.

The practice day on Wednesday has been a dream, the afternoon has been full of prolonged periods of sunshine with a 17mph breeze just keeping the golfers awake to the danger of Hoylake. If only the rest of the week was so hopeful!

Thursday and Friday have been somewhat of a delight with prolonged periods of sunshine and little to no rain. The wind has been challenging for the players with gusts up to 20mph making for some fun scores on the closing stretch.

As we look forward to the weekend it’s not going to be one for the spectators with 5mm+ rain expected throughout Saturday and Sunday with more gusts up to 20mph on the horizon making for a fun yet unpredictable weekend.

Hoylake weather.

The weather always plays a big part in deciding who will win The Open, and most Open courses rely heavily on the weather to create their biggest defense, especially against the modern game’s big hitters.

Players often talk about getting the right or wrong side of the draw, and this year’s edition of golf’s oldest and most prestigious championship could well create such a situation with the unpredictable forecast on the horizon.

The wind blew and the temperatures dropped at the 2015 Open at St Andrews.
