My Top 10 Courses: Charley Hull

Nineteen-year-old Charley Hull may only have turned professional in 2013, but she has already played many of the UK’s –and indeed the world’s – leading courses. But she has no doubt about her No.1 venue: her beloved Woburn, home of three stunning courses (Marquess’, Duke’s & Duchess’) and who, like Ian Poulter, she represents on Tour. Woburn is just a short drive from her family home in Northamptonshire. After a highly successful amateur career, Hull has flourished in the pro ranks and is now eyeing up Majors glory.

Woburn, Bucks
My home club and not only my favourite course in the UK but my favourite venue in the whole world. I enjoyed every moment of growing up there and still love going back to play all three courses. Green fees: £235, includes two rounds and three-course lunch.

Royal Birkdale, Merseyside
Not only do I have fond memories from playing the Ricoh Women’s British Open there, but I love that the course is testing but fair. If you’re not playing well the course can really bite you, although you’re rewarded for good shots. Green fees: £195-£235.

New Zealand GC, Surrey
A little different to what we play on Tour as it’s not the longest and is a par 68 but that doesn’t mean it’s easy. There are still quite a few long par 4s and a lot of trees, so you have to stay on the fairway. Green fees: Members & guests only.

Royal Liverpool, Merseyside
I grew up watching Tiger Woods win there in 2006, which made me want to play it and then I was lucky enough to qualify for my first British Open as an amateur in 2012. I didn’t make the cut but it was so exciting. Green fees: £175.

Hillside, Merseyside
Sometimes gets overlooked because it’s next to Royal Birkdale but it is a fantastic test and different to some of the other top links with trees framing some holes. The par-5 17th is my particular favourite. Green fees: £115-£140.

Woodhall Spa (Hotchkin), Lincs
I played at Woodhall quite a lot growing up and I enjoy playing heathlands so always liked travelling there. There are many huge bunkers to avoid, especially on the 12th. Green fees: £75.

The Berkshire, Berks
Both the Blue and Red courses areoutstanding heathland layouts but I especially like the unusual mix of the Red with its exciting make-up of six par 3s, 4s and 5s – it means there are plenty of birdie opportunities out there. Green fees: £130-£175.

Panmure, Angus
As soon as I set foot on Panmure, I knew I was going to love playing there. Not only is it a testing old links, but I really enjoyed some of the history such as Ben Hogan practising there before his Carnoustie Open win in 1953. Green fees: £80.

Walton Heath (Old), Surrey
A long course and an extremely tough test. I always find starting a round with a par 3 tricky and some of the bunkering and large amounts of heather put a premium on hitting the ball straight and committing to your yardage. Green fees: £150-£180.

Sunningdale (Old course), Berks
This is a classic heathland course and you feel special every time you play there knowing how many prestigious events have been there and who has played there. The greens are always fast and true at Sunningdale too. Green fees: £205.
