Tiger Woods withdraws from the Masters

Tiger Woods – the most expensive player in the TG Fantasy Golf game – has withdrawn from the Masters after undergoing back surgery.

The world number one has been struggling with back spasms in recent weeks and the surgery to repair a pinched nerve will leave him sidelined for several weeks.

“After attempting to get ready for the Masters, and failing to make the necessary progress, I decided, in consultation with my doctors, to have this procedure done,” said a statement from the 38 year old.

“I’d like to express my disappointment to the Augusta National membership, staff, volunteers and patrons that I will not be at the Masters. It’s a week that’s very special to me. It also looks like I’ll be forced to miss several upcoming tournaments to focus on my rehabilitation and getting healthy.

“I’d also like to thank the fans for their support and concern. It’s very kind and greatly appreciated. This is frustrating, but it’s something my doctors advised me to do for my immediate and long-term health.”

The four-time Masters champion is valued at £6.0m but TG Fantasy Golf managers will still face some difficult decisions for the first tournament in the game with a £15m budget for their six-man team and many of the big names valued at over £4.0m.

The bookies favourites are Rory McIlroy (£5.5m), Adam Scott (£5.5m), Phil Mickelson (£4.0m), Jason Day (£3.0m), Henrik Stenson (£5.0m) and Dustin Johnson (£3.5m).
