DUNDONALD
Home of a top modern links, it opened in 2003 and was the handiwork of Kyle Phillips. Looks – and plays – as if it’s been around for a century.

PRESTWICK
It’s steeped in history and tradition and is in fact where it all started – Prestwick, thanks to Old Tom Morris, staged the first dozen Opens from 1860, and has held 24 in all.

TROON (PORTLAND)
Overshadowed by its bigger brother, the Portland is a genuine links and very similar in style to the Old, though a little shorter and more forgiving.

TROON (DARLEY)
A public and highly popular links and though not as long as the nearby Lochgreen course, it is a tough test of golf, demanding accurate drives.
