Former European Tour star Mark Mouland took full advantage of home course knowledge to capture the Numark British Par 3 Championship at his home venue, Nailcote Hall, near Coventry.

Mouland triumphed by two shots from European tour star, Lee Slattery.  Just one shot further back were local favourite Tom Whitehouse, European Tour colleague, Phil Golding and regional professionals Richard O’Hanlon and Jason Powell.

Despite a bogey 4 on the final hole which left Slattery needing a hole-in-one to make a play off with Mouland, the partisan crown watching were nearly silenced as Slattery proceeded to hit the flagstick in his attempt, only for the ball to remain above ground!

A clearly relieved and very happy Mouland was delighted to receive the winner’s trophy from Tony Jacklin together with a wheelbarrow filled with £5,000 in one pound coins and a Methusalah of Moet & Chandon Champagne.

In the better ball pairs event, Tom Whitehouse and Eliott Cook scored 14 under par winning on a countback from Simon Lilly and Walter Goonewardene.  Mark Mouland and 12 year old Charley Hull were also in on 14 under par, but in 3rd place on the countback and ruing Mark’s last hole bogey that cost them a double celebration.
