Luke Donald is set to make his long-awaited return from injury.

Donald is set to make his comeback in the Sun City Challenge at the Gary Player Country Club in South Africa in December. “I absolutely believe I’ll be ready,” said Donald who underwent wrist surgery in the summer.

After missing the cut at The Masters, Luke was just returning to form when he ‘felt something go pop’ in his wrist at the US Open. He was forced to withdraw from the tournament immediately and, after two months’ rest brought little improvement, he realised he had little choice but to have surgery.

Luke described it as ‘one of the biggest decisions of my career’ but now, three months later, he is fighting fit again.

“November 3 was 12 weeks from my surgery and I began hitting full shots again that day. I started with full wedges and every day since then I’ve been building up club by club. There’s no pain; no soreness, and everything feels very good.”

The tournament tees off on December 4. “I absolutely believe I’ll be ready,” added Luke. “I wouldn’t have entered unless I thought I was going to be.”

Luke Donald is also confident there’s plenty of time to prepare physically and mentally for a tournament that has good memories for him. He was fifth on his first appearance in 2005, and sixth last year.

“It might take a bit of adjusting mentally after being out for five months – I’ve never had a break from competitive golf for that long before. But I’m sure when I get out there, the competitive juices will start flowing again.”
