Clarke withdraws from Malaysian Open

Darren Clarke has withdrawn from this week’s Malaysian Open, ending his chances of qualifying for the Accenture Matchplay Championship.

The world number 73 would probably have needed to finish in the top two in Malaysia to climb into the top 64 on Monday, the qualification cut-off for the WGC event at Dove Mountain.

Clarke beat Tiger Woods 4&3 in the final of the Accenture Matchplay in 2000.

The Ulsterman will make his next competitive appearance at the PGA Tour’s Honda Classic in the first week of March as he continues to try and force his way into the world’s top 50 in time to qualify for the Masters.
