Woods exits Match Play Championship

World number one Tiger Woods has been knocked out in the second round of the Accenture Match Play Championship 4&2 by Tim Clark.

The South African ended Woods’ chances of defending the title by winning three holes on the bounce after a tight first ten holes.

Just as it looked like Clark would finish Woods off the American holed a wonderful bunker shot on the 14th to restore some hope.

But this was shortlived as the American drove out of bounds at the 15th and Clark wrapped up the victory.

“Well, I lost,” said Woods. “I played really well today but didn’t make enough birdies.”

“Tim’s a wonderful player, he’s consistent and grinds it out and he made a bunch of birdies today.”

Elsewhere, Camilo Villegas is continued his impressive form with a convincing 5&4 win over Miguel Angel Jimenez and things are looking good for the British contingent.

Lee Westwood fell to Stewart Cink at the 23rd hole but Rory McIlroy, Ian Poulter, Paul Casey, Luke Donald, Ross Fisher and Oliver Wilson have all made it into the last 16.
