An out-of-form Michael Campbell pulled out of The Open during his unhappy 2nd round – his fifth withdrawal this season.

It’s hard to believe that Campbell won the US Open just four years ago.

Nowadays the Kiwi is a shadow of the player who triumphed in 2005 and went close to winning the Claret Jug at St Andrews a decade earlier.

In fact he’s plummeted to 298 in the World Rankings and certainly won’t be competing over the weekend at Turnberry after a disastrous couple of days.

It’s been another harrowing week for Cambo, highlighted by his quadruple bogey at the demanding par-3 6th in the 2nd round.

He found the front left bunker with his tee shot and then proceeded to smash his next shot over the green… and shellshocked gallery. How the mighty have fallen…
