Glover reading his way to Open title

Lucas Glover is looking to read his way to the Claret Jug at Turnberry this week.

The American is bidding for his second successive major title after emerging a shock winner of the recent US Open at Bethpage Black.

Glover reckoned a key aspect of his unexpected first major success was chilling out with a good read – he actually read four books during US Open week!

And he’s already in good reading form this week, revealing: “I’ve just had a nice long flight over here and have finished one book already though to be fair I was already halfway through it.

“But I’ve still got another one to read so I suppose I had better take it slowly from now on otherwise I’ll run out of reading material.”

Reading clearly helps Glover take his mind off the game and the pressures involved

and as far as he’s concerned it’s the perfect way to unwind after a testing day at the office.

No doubt he’s hoping to read some newspaper back pages with photos of him lifting the Claret Jug at the weekend…

And he believes his US Open success can help him do just that, saying: “It’s all about getting into contention and if I can do that I now know what to do.”

Mind you, like everybody else he’s wary of the threat of one Tiger Woods. “Tiger beat my brains out for two days at the recent AT&T so I’ve got to go some to catch him up a bit.”
