Ishikawa hopes to make first major cut

Japanese wonderkid Ryo Ishikawa has set his sights on making the cut in his first Open Championship at Turnberry.

The 17-year-old sensation will tee off with Tiger Woods and Lee Westwood at 9:09am tomorrow and 2:20pm on Friday.

“My goal is to play four days and make the cut and try to make this tournament as wonderful as it is,” reveaked the world number 78.

Ishikawa has cult status in his homeland but is shocked that Woods has found time to talk about him. The world number one said that the teenager could make the cut if he plays well.

“It’s unbelievable that Tiger is talking about mw. And it is like a dream come true. Ever since I got into the British Open it’s like a total dream.”
