Tiger struggles to make impact

The Open Championship In Association With Nikon

It’s fair to say red-hot favourite Tiger Woods was not best pleased with his bitterly disappointing opening effort of 71 (+1).

Tiger was clearly not at his best despite winning his previous event (AT&T Championship) and the near-perfect conditions.

He only opted to use his driver three times all day and each time miserably failed to find the short stuff.

He conceded: “I certainly made a few mistakes out there today. Hopefully tomorrow I can play a little better, clean it up a bit and get myself heading in the right direction.”

Tiger then headed in the direction of the driving range to try and put things right, particularly with his dodgy driving.

“On the range beforehand my misses were to the right and the misses I had out on the course were the same shots so I need to go and work on getting things right so I can it squared up for tomorrow.”
