Wolstenholme blogs about third-place finish in Mauritius

The Mauritius Commercial Bank Open

What a fascinating weekend in Mauritius in the beautiful setting of the Constance Belle Mare Plage! After my flurry of birdies on Friday I thought I put myself in the reckoning for the title, but unfortunately it was not meant to be as I slipped a little on Saturday but recovered well to finish third.

My congratulations go to David Frost who played superbly all weekend, he is a class act and I am sure he will go on to win again on the Senior Tour – that’s for sure.

Friday’s finish was incredible. I had started to think that the tournament was passing me by but after making birdies on the final four holes – on the way to a 67 and the first round lead – I was pleased with what I was able to achieve.

It was important for me to secure a top-10 finish as I hadn’t played as well as I would have hoped in Japan, and this second third place of the season has lifted me to third on the Order of Merit, a position I would like to maintain and hopefully better as the season progresses.

The Senior Tour heads for a bit of a break now and I will be looking to work on my swing and putting over the Christmas break. As many of you will be getting ready for Christmas I wish you all a good one.

This year has surpassed everything that I could have imagined and for me the journey has only just begun. With so much to look forward to, including competing in the Senior Open Championship at Walton Heath in July.

I am so grateful as this time last year if you would have told me that I would have won an event on the Senior Tour and secured a further three top-three finishes I would certainly have taken that.

Looking at the European Tour it will be interesting to see if Martin Kaymer can defend his Race to Duabi title. On the PGA Tour, all eyes will be on Tiger Woods as he looks to recover from what has been a difficult year, and I am sure he will bounce back and show the world what talent he really has.

I will keep you up to date with my progress throughout the winter and I hope you all have a relaxing and enjoyable Christmas!
