Fantasy League preview: AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am

Published:

Our attention switches to the PGA Tour for this week’s Fantasy League event, the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

This is always a great event with a cracking field but there’s a little extra spice added this year by the fact the US Open will be played at Pebble Beach in June.

Last year’s event was badly rain-affected so the players will be hoping they get blue skies and a decent warm up for the the season’s second major.

World number three Phil Mickelson heads the field and there is a strong European interest in the form of Padraig Harrington, Sergio Garcia, Luke Donald and Martin Laird amongst others.

The tournament is played on three courses: Monterey Peninsula and Spyglass Hill join this year’s US Open venue.

Here are TG’s six players to watch out for:

Retief Goosen $2.8m
The South African is a firm fixture in the TG team following a strong end to 2009 and three top 10s in three starts this year. Sure only a matter of time before the experienced winner turns one into a W.

Dustin Johnson $1.5m
The 25-year-old is the defending champion at Pebble Beach and is coming off the back of a T3 finish at the Northern Trust Open last week.

Jim Furyk $3.2m
The world number five ended last year with a win in the CHevron World Challenge and made his 2010 debut with a T20 last week.

Sean O’Hair $2.6m
O’Hair is one of the best ball-strikers in America so he’s tough to beat any time he gets his flat stick working. Had a top 10 at Pebble Beach in 2009.

Nick Watney $1.8m
The American Ryder Cup hopeful missed the cut last week but has been showing signs of putting his height and long levers to good use and fulfilling his huge potential.

Mike Weir $2.2m
The left-hander missed a rare cut at the Northern Trust Open but you can bet he won’t miss the weekend two weeks running and likes Pebble Beach having finished runner-up last year.

You’ve got until 3pm on Thursday 11 February to pick your six-man team at www.fantasyleaguegolf.co.uk.
