Fantasy League Preview: Phoenix Open

The Fantasy League is back after a week off for the WGC Accenture Match Play and we stay in Arizona for the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

TPC Scottsdale once again plays host to the tournament that Kenny Perry claimed by defeating Charley Hoffman on the third play-ff hole last year.

While the likes of Steve Stricker, Lee Westwood and Sergio Garcia have opted to take the week off after their Match Play exploits, new WGC Champion Ian Poulter, third-placed Camilo Villegas and Geoff Ogilvy are all in the field.

Nevertheless, it’s a strong field as many players look to get their game in shape for the WGC CA Championship in three weeks time.

Here are TG’s six tips for your $15m Fantasy League team this week:

Brian Gay $1.6m
Gay flew under the radar to beat Perry and ach Johnson at the Match Play and finished T6 in Phoenix last year.

JB Holmes $1.0m
The big-hitter hasn’t been as badly affected by the new groove rules as many people imagined and has T3 and T2 finishes in his last two starts.

Steve Marino $1.2m
The 29-year-old is yet to win on Tour but two top five finishes in three events this season suggest this could change sooner rather than later.

Phil Mickelson $6.0m
‘Lefty’ ended last season in scintilating form and hasn’t quite picked up where he left off in 2010 but a top 10 at Pebble Beach shows he’s not far off.

Kenny Perry $3.4m
Despite a low start to the season and turning 50 later in the year, the defending champion is always dangerous on home soil.

Nick Watney $1.8m
The world number 30 overcame Lee Westwood last week on his way to the third round and finished T12 in Phoenix last year.

You’ve got until 2pm on Thursday 25 February to pick your six-man team at www.fantasyleaguegolf.co.uk.
