Fantasy League preview: Sony Open

This week’s Fantasy League event is the PGA Tour’s Sony Open in Hawaii.

The second event of the American season has attracted a strong 140-man field to Waialae Country Club on Honolulu.

Zach Johnson is the defending champion while Vijay Singh, Ernie Els and Luke Donald will all be making their first appearances of 2010.

You have until 5pm on Thursday 14 January to select your six-man team.

There are plenty of top-class golfers to choose from but here are TG’s tips:

Ricki Fowler $1.0m
America’s next big thing finished tied 2nd in the Frys.com Open at the end of the last season and breezed through Q School. He’ll win sooner rather than later.

Retief Goosen $2.8m
Goos is in a rich vein of form and a tied 6th finish at last week’s SBS Championship bodes well for the coming season.

Zach Johnson $2.4m
He didn’t pull up any trees last week but you can never discount the defending champion, especially having notched a top 20 finish in his last six starts.

Sean O’Hair $2.6m
The 27-year-old has quietly moved himself up to number 15 in the world and finished tied 4th at the SBS. If his putting’s anywhere near as good as his ball-striking he’ll be up there this week.

Rory Sabbatini $1.3m
The volatile South African shot a stunning closing 63 last week for 2nd place and will be hoping to pick up where he left off on the Volcanic island.

Steve Stricker $4.5m
Started slowy at the SBS Championship but 68-66 over the weekend showed his true ability. Always a good bet on American soil.
