Fantasy League preview: Honda Classic

We stay on the other side of the pond for this week’s Fantasy League event: the Honda Classic at the PGA National Champion Course, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

The course is regarded as one of the toughest on the PGA Tour calendar, with 26 water hazards coming into play on the 7,158-yard layout.

USPGA Champion YE Yang will be defending his first PGA Tour title in a field with a strong European contingent.

Lee Westwood, Rory McIlroy, Padraig Harrington, Paul Casey, Sergio Garcia, Oliver Wilson, Justin Rose and Graeme McDowell will all be teeing it up in preparation for next week’s WGC-CA Championship.

Here are TG’s six Fantasy League tips for the Honda Classic:

Robert Allenby £2.2m
After a disappointing 2009, two wins in the southern hemisphere over the winter reinvigorated the Australian. He’s climbed to 14 in the world rankings and sits 9th in the FedEx Cup.

Paul Casey $3.8m
He’s put the rib injury that scuppered the end of his Race to Dubai campaign firmly behind him with four top 11 finishes this season, including second place at the World Match Play.

Charles Howell III $1.0m
The American’s had a quiet couple of years but has four top 20 finishes from five starts this season, including T4th in Phonex last week.

Rory McIlroy $3.2m
The Northern Irish phenom hardly seems to finish outside the top 10 these days and only missed one cut in 10 starts in America last season.

Camilo Villegas $2.8m
The 28-year-old has only finished outside the top 20 once since last September and showed impressive mental strength to finish 3rd at the World Match Play.

YE Yang $2m
Yang is returning as defending champion and his confidence will be high after a closing round of 65 to finish third in Phoenix last week.
