Tiger Wodds’ bid to reclaim the World No1 spot is already in big trouble.

The World No2 is playing in the Australian masters but is already nine shots off the lead after the opening two rounds. Woods had enjoyed 281 uninterrupted weeks as the best player in the world, but he was knocked off the top spot by England’s Lee Westwood last week.

And it seems unlikely that Woods will regain the top spot any time soon. Since revelations about his private life and the break-up of his marriage the American has failed to win and is looking distinctly out of sorts. Only a win would return Woods to World No1.

Australia’s Adam Bland is leading at 10 under and Tiger is currently at one under. Sergio Garcia shot his best round of the year – 65 – to put him in contention at four under. The Spaniard is returning after a long lay-off after falling out of love with the game during the summer.

He appeared as a vice captain at the Ryder Cup and vowesd to get back into golf and to regain some of the form that has seen him content in Majors in reent years.

The field is mainly made up of locals with a few star names thrown into the mix.

The course is proving tough and high winds have cause some players problems.
