Donald aiming for top spot again

Luke Donald is again striving to take over the world no.1 spot from fellow Englishman Lee Westwood.

For the third week running, Donald has a chance to overtake Westwood and become the new man at the helm after narrowly missing out in a play-off at Hilton Head last weekend.

Donald entered the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, which started today, ranked No. 3 behind Westwood and Martin Kaymer. He needs to win or finish second to overtake Kaymer — and possibly unseat ‘Westy’ at the summkit depending of course what the latter  does at the Ballantine’s Championship in South Korea.

Westwood needs to finish fifth or better there to retain the No. 1 spot he wrestled from Kaymer with his win in Indonesia.

But if Donald is second at the Zurich Classic, Westwood needs to finish in the top three to stay at No. 1 and if Donald wins in New Orleans, Westy also needs a victory to hold him off.

Donald meanwhile says he’s already forgotten about his disappointing play-off loss to Brandt Snedeker at The Heritage.

He’s taking the positives and moving on, saying:”A lot of things did go right last week. I’m playing well, I’m swinging well. I’m doing a lot of things well.

“So I think it’s good to keep playing. Sometimes you go back for a week and take a few days off, and you can kind of lose that feeling you have in your swing. I’m glad to be playing this week.”
