McIlroy leading the Masters

Rory McIlroy holds the Masters lead on -5 through 13 holes at just after 1pm local time.

The Northern Irishman started in enphatic style with birdies at 2, 3 and 4 and added to his tally on 9 and the par-3 12th. He has yet to drop a shot.

Earlier in the day, Ross Fisher held the lead on -4 but a bogey 17 meant he had to settle for a 69. Fisher is joined in the clubhouse with a 69 by Brandt Snedeker, who finished tied for third in 2008.

Tiger Woods is making steady progress at -1 through nine and Lee Westwood is even par.

Charl Schwartzel eagled the 8th to move to -4 and threaten the lead. His fellow South African Retief Goosen eagled the par-4 1st – becoming only the fifth man in Masters history to do so.

World number one Martin Kaymer, whose never made the cut in three previous Masters, struggled on the front nine and made the turn on +2.

Other big names languishing at the wrong end of the leaderboard include Padraig Harrington, Vijay Singh, Rickie Fowler and Dustin Johnson.
