rory starts second round

Rory McIlroy has started his second round of the US PGA, despite sustaining a wrist injury in his opening round yesterday.

McIlroy battled through his opening round level par after he hurt his wrist on the third hole. He hit some roots and needed ice and wrappings throughout the remainder of the holes.

An MRI scan last night revealed damage to his tendons, but he has started the second round after just 20 minutes on the practice range this morning. He has got some strapping on his arm, but has hit his first two tee shots very solidly.

He held onto his club and there were no grimmaces, which were both common occurrances yesterday.

But McIlroy slipped back to one over after a poor three-putt on his first (the 10th) from about 20 feet.

Steve Stricker leads at seven under but is not due to tee off until later today.
