coles comes up short in india

S.S.P. Chowrasia closed with a 5-under-par 32-35=67 at the Avantha Masters to record a one-stroke victory over Robert Coles (70), who bogeyed the 72nd hole.

Sitting bogey-free 7-under through 15 holes today, Chowrasia was ready to run away from the field, but a wayward tee ball at the par-3 16th and subsequent double bogey dropped him into a share of the lead with Coles.

The Brit failed to capitalize, needing four whacks around the final green to hole out for bogey, handing the Indian his second career European Tour victory (2008 Indian Masters).

“I am now ready to go back on the European Tour and have a real go at succeeding in Europe,” said Chowrasia, who finished with 15-under 273 at DLF Golf and Country Club in New Delhi.

“I am now going to sit down and rework my schedule so that I can have the best chance of success. I have a little more experience in Europe now and that is so important because I know the golf courses and know the cultures.”

With a pair of World Golf Championships now on tap, the next European Tour event outside the U.S. will be the inaugural Sicilian Open on March 17-20.
