Ben on the track to more Open glory?

American Ben Curtis is determined to prove he’s not a one hit Open wonder.

Curtis is hoping that history will repeat itself this week at Royal St George’s where he held aloft the Claret Jug eight years ago.

Rank outsider Curtis was a shock winner at Sandwich in 2003 and is quietly confident about his chances this time round though obviously the odds are stacked heavily against a repeat triumph.

“I’ve no idea where eight years have gone,” Curtis told TG. “They’ve kind of flown by.

“Obviously I remember a lot of what happened here eight years ago – great times, fantastic memories and it would be great to experience them all over again.

“I love playing links golf and courses and I’ll be pulling out all the stops to try and win again.

“They’ve made some changes to the course and the rough isn’t as penal as last time but the key to doing well here is your short game…and my short game is pretty good at the moment.”
