Clarke hot favourite for Sports Personality of the Year

The Sports Personality of the Year award is heading to Northern
Ireland according to bookies Ladbrokes.

Following Darren Clarke’s victory in the Open as a 150/1 outsider his
odds of landing the gong have been slashed to 5/4 from 100/1.

Countryman Rory McIlroy drifts to 5/4 from 1/2 having looked to have the
award in the bag following his US Open win.

And it’s 16/1 bar those two with Andy Murray, Phil Taylor and Jessica Ennis
among those who appear to have it all to do to overhaul either of the
Open winners.

Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “Even at this stage we can’t see anyone else
getting close. It’s now a toss up between the two countrymen with the USPGA
looking vital.”

Ladbrokes latest betting for the 2011 BBC Sports Personality of the Year:

Darren Clarke – 5/4 (from 100/1)
Rory McIlroy – 5/4 (from 1/2)
16/1 bar
