Simon Dyson will play in The Open after David Toms withdrew due to a hip injury.
Englishman Dyson has won on the European Tour four times and seemed spurred on by the news as he climbed the leaderboard at The Scottish Open. He shot an opening round 68 and continues to close on the leader during his second round at the Castle Stuart Links course.
Dyson, 33, was the fifth reserve but due to many players pulling out he’s won a place. Tiger Woods, Thomas Levet and now Toms are just some of the players failing to show.
Dyson was unlucky not to have already made the field with four top 10s on the European Tour this year, including a third at the BMW at Wentworth in May.
