Fantasy League: Canadian Open preview

Week two of the Today’s Golfer Fantasy League takes us to the PGA Tour for the RBC Canadian Open.

The tournament returns to Shaughnessy G&CC, which is celebrating its centenary, for the first time since 2005.

When it was last held on this par 70 track it ranked as the toughest course on the PGA Tour outside the Major venues.

There has been heavy rain in the area in recent weeks so greens will be receptive, but they are undulating. Favour good ball strikers who don’t make too many bogeys.

The six tips below conform to the $15m budget and lean towards experience and Americans who flourish on their own Tour.

TG’s Fantasy League team for the RBC Canadian Open is:

Luke Donald, $4.5m
The world number one is probably the best scrambler on the planet and prior to his missed cut at The Open has recorded 16 top 10s in his last 18 starts, including three victories.

Rickie Fowler, $2.5m
The young American played brilliantly on his way to a tied 5th at The Open and has a top 15 in his last start in America. His maiden victory is just around the corner.

Matt Kuchar, $3.6m
He’s probably the most consistent American on Tour, thanks largely to his fantastic putting. Missing the cut at The Open will have enabled him to get back across the Atlantic earlier and have moer time rpparing for this week.

Bryce Molder, $0.9m
The world number 133 is a relative unknown outside the US, but is on a good run of form that reads T6-T8-T30. Didn’t play last week.

Ryan Moore, $1.9m
He finished joint second the last time the Canadian Open was held at Shaughnessy in 2005 and is carrying decent form at the moment.

Bo Van Pelt, $1.6m
He has five top-15 finishes on the bounce in America, including a T14 at the US Open. Made the cut at The Open last week.
