TG Blog: Injury problems force Brunei withdrawal

Brunei Senior Masters

Unfortunately the event out in Brunei ended up being a real disaster for me! I picked up neck and shoulder injuries while out there so going into the event I knew I wasn’t completely ready for it. With the aid of treatment I thought I could get through it but it was just too much for me and I decided to withdraw on Saturday.

Having had a long break from the last event in Mauritius I was really looking forward to the Brunei Masters but it was just not to be. However, there are a few positives to take away from the week there.

It is encouraging that while playing with a couple of injuries I was still able to finish inside the top 20 on the first day and remain in contention just four shots off the lead.

I am delighted for Chris Williams as his hard work on the tour has resulted in a maiden Senior Tour victory for him. With a closing round of seven-under-par he blew the rest of the field away and is now firmly in the running for the Order of Merit title.

I believe he last won in 2003 so to keep persevering and to eventually succeed shows what a strong competitor he is. At the beginning of the day I could not have predicted him coming from five shots behind to win so convincingly.

Looking ahead I’m determined to work hard to make sure I can play at the Handa Senior World Championship in China that begins this Friday. I need to take on significant treatment to give myself any chance of competing, and competing well.

After China we take another break on the tour. I am aware that I need to make sure I am still in the hunt for the Order of Merit so I will do all I can to get back in contention to play in Shenzhen.

You will have to find out how I get on in my next blog next week. I hope I will have some good news for you!
