ryder cup decision

A decision on where the Ryder Cup will be played in 2018 will be made later today.

France, Germany, Netherlands, Portugal and Spain are in the running to host the world’s biggest matchplay event.

France had emerged as the favourite with Le National course just outside Paris. But the death of Seve Ballesteros has led some to call for the event to be hosted in Spain. The Madrid bid has been an advwenurous one, but the course has not yet been built and it may just miss out.

European Tour player, and French superstar Thomas Levet, said: “If you do something for Seve you have to do it now like changing the European Tour logo. It would not be a good thing to give the Ryder Cup to Spain becasue of Seve and besides, you should not be showing your appreciation for Seve in seven years time.”

Seve famously captained the European team to victory in the 1997 Ryder Cup at Valderrama. A decision is expected at lunchtime.
