Olazabal selects trio as vice-captains

European captain Jose Maria Olazabal has selected Darren Clarke, Paul McGinley and Thomas Bjorn as three of his four vice-captaincy picks ahead of The Ryder Cup at Medinah Country Club next month.
The trio, who have played in 10 Ryder Cups between them, were picked as vice-captains by Colin Montgomerie at Celtic Manor two years ago and will reprise the role again from September 28-30.
The Spaniard will announce his fourth and final vice-captain, along with two wildcard picks, on August 27.
Olazabal told the European Tour’s website: “I could not be more delighted than to have Thomas, Darren and Paul as vice-captains, especially as we bonded so well supporting Colin Montgomerie in 2010.
“All three are world class golfers with tremendous experience of playing in The Ryder Cup which is absolutely invaluable.
“For me to have these guys – all such great friends – by my side is fantastic. I know like me they will now be counting down the days to Medinah with one aim – to return home with the Cup,” added the 46-year-old.
Olazabal’s opposite number on the US side, Davis Love III, has already chosen Fred Couples, Jeff Sluman, Mike Hulbert and Scott Verplank as his vice-captains and will name his four wildcard picks on September 4.
