scott leads wgc

Adam Scott leads the WGC Cadillac Championship after shooting an impressive six under in wind and rain at Doral in Florida.

The talk before the opening round had centred around the world top three playing together – Rory McIlroy, Luke Donald and Lee Westwood, but it was the Aussie who stole their thunder.

Donald was the best of the star-studded threesome with a two under 70 which left him in a tie for 13th. On a day when many players struggled, McIlroy’s one over par is still far from out of it. The Northern Irish star admitted to ‘feeling a little flat’. It seems the exertions of the first few tournaments of 2012 and winning The Honda Classic just five days ago may be taking its toll.

Westwood found little rhythm as he slumped to four over and will need to bounce back in the second round if he is to contend.

Tiger Woods was also one of the hot topics in the run-up to the event after his sensational 62 in the final round at The Honda Classic on Sunday. He struck the ball well but struggled with long putts. He ended up level par and could still feature.

Jason Dufner matched Scott’s 66 and Thomas Bjorn shot a 68 to sit in third. Justin Rose showed some form to shoot a three under 69.
