Behind The Scenes Video With Ryder Cup Stars at WGC Champions Event In China

Ryder Cup heroes Ian Poulter, Luke Donald, Lee Westwood, Graeme McDowell and Open Champion Ernie Els have prepared for the WGC HSBC Champions with a visit to the bank’s global headquarters in Hong Kong.

TG columnist Andrew Cotter was there and presents the video below, containing interviews with the stars and some behind the scenes action.

The golfers were also introduced to scratch players, 12-year-old Guo Wanyi and 15-year-old Bai Zhengkai from the HSBC China Junior Golf Program, who talked the five players through the key findings of a report on the future of golf commissioned by HSBC.

The report, called Golf’s 2020 Vision, is a detailed look at the future of golf over the next eight years. The youngsters, who are both members of the China National Junior Golf Team, revealed that the next eight years will see, a major Asian presence in the world’s top-10 with the “next Tiger Woods” likely to come from the region. 

They also spoke of huge growth in players, tournaments and golf brands in China as the country’s middle class reaches 98 million households and new low cost urban golf courses springing up alongside the more traditional courses.

The players were also shown the HSBC trading floor and, in accordance with local custom, rubbed the paws of the famous bronze lions outside the Queen’s Road headquarters to bring them luck ahead of the WGC tournament.
