Fantasy Golf: Ballantine’s Championship preview

The 2013 Today’s Golfer Fantasy Golf game makes a first visit to the European Tour this week at the Ballantine’s Championship in Korea.

The event is being held at Blackstone Golf Club for the third successive year. The course is a tree-lined and undulating layout with plenty of water in play, but the fairways are quite wide so there is some margin for error off the tee.

Results from the last two years indicate the course favours good ball strikers who can strategise their way round, and Asian players have done well here.

Dustin and Zach Johnson and Alvaro Quiros are high-profile withdrawals due to the turbulent political climate on the Korean peninsula but the field still boasts 17 of the world’s top 100 and a host of familiar European Tour players.

Here is the six-man Today’s Golfer team for the Ballantine’s Championship:

Louis Oosthuizen, £4.0m
The world number seven is the stand-out player in the field. He missed the cut at the Masters but his class will shine through in this weaker field. He’s 6th on the European Tour in driving distance and 25th in GIR.

Alex Noren, £1.6m
The Swede is a proven winner on Tour and recorded a T6 in his last start in the Maybank Malaysian Open. He’s finished T5 and T7 here the last two years.

Bernd Wiesberger, £1.4m
The defending champion has made 12 consecutive cuts and finished T5 in his last start at the Trophee Hassan II.

Richie Ramsay, £1.3m
Last year’s European Masters champion has three top-23s and one missed cut in his last four strokeplay starts. He’s finished T13 and runner-up here the last two years.

David Howell, £0.8m
The former Ryder Cupper is starting to regain some of the form that took him into the world’s top 10 a few years ago. He has four top-10s and and no missed cuts in eight starts this season.

Kiradech Aphibarnrat, £0.7m
The young Thai bomber won the Maybank Malaysian Open five weeks ago. He has six top-6 finishes in his last seven starts and finished T25 here last year.

> The deadline to pick your team for the Ballantine’s Championship is 11pm on Wednesday 14th April. See a full list of the field here.
