Lee James Secures Second Win on The Players Tour at Heythrop

Former British Amateur Champion Lee James has secured his second win on The Players Tour at Heythrop Park, coming back from four behind to win by three.

The Players Tour – holding its fourth event of the 2013 season at Heythrop Park – set up off the back tees, playing at 7,000+ yards and with a SSS of 74.

The 36 hole event couldn’t have started any tougher with a daunting 470-yard par-4, with an out of bounds down the left and five huge overhanging trees down the right, sandwiching an already tight and extremely narrow fairway.

Still, in the opening round, it was Louis Boston who came flying out of the blocks the quickest, by not only parring the tough opening hole but following it with a hole in one on the 184-yard 2nd! He finished up on one-over-par, holding the first round lead from Andrew Cheese (+2), Max Brackley (+2) and Shaun Mills (+3).

The length of the course -and the walks in between some of the holes – took their toll, with the second round scores coming up short on the first round efforts. The best efforts included Ben Tobin, who followed an opening +9 with an impressive 73 (+1) to jump from 13th up into the 5th, and a prize money spot.

However, the afternoon belonged to James, whose superb 71 (-1) included an incredible eagle on the supremely difficult par-5, 11th. Combined with his morning round of 77, he jumped from 8th place to the top of the board, to take his second title of the season from Cheese, who finished on a total of +7 after two solid rounds of 74 and 77.

Current Order of Merit after four events:

1 Lee James £2,276.00
2 Max Brackley £1,675.00
3 Colton Alleyne-Davis £1,300.00
4 James Doswell £1,160.00
5 Andrew Cheese £600.00
