Video: Rory McIlroy Backs Paul McGinley For 2014 Captaincy

Published:

Rory McIlroy has once again reiterated his desire for Irishman Paul McGinley to lead  Europe’s Ryder Cup team in 2014 ahead of today’s captain announcement.

In an interview with TG columnist Andrew Cotter, the new Nike staffer said: “I’d love McGinley to get it. I think he deserves it.”

He went on to add: “Hopefully the committee make the right decision because most of the players who will be on the 2014 team want one man to do it and that’s Paul McGinley.”

McGinley is up against 2010 winning skipper Colin Montgomerie, after the other likely candidate and one time front-runner, Darren Clarke, removed his name from the running this week.

A decision is expected to be made in the next few hours.
