Players Tour Finishes In Playoff Thriller At Surrey National

After two previous runners up finishes already this season, James Doswell from East Sussex secured his first win as a professional golfer at Surrey National on The Players Tour.
He joins fellow Hastings’ golfer Colton Alleyne-Davis, who won his first professional tournament earlier in the season, to continue The Players Tour’s fine reputation as a breeding ground for up-and-coming talent.
With Surrey National in excellent condition it was Order of Merit leader and three time 2013 winner Lee James who led the field through nine on two-under, with 21-year-old Jonny Ingram on his professional debut a close second on one-under.
With three to play, Lee James was still leading the field on three-under, with Ingram one back and Doswell on one-under, but after a bogey at 16 from both the men in front of him, Doswell birdied 17 to move into a share of the lead goin down the last.
Ingram, chasing a birdie at the difficult 18th, found the left bunker and with both Lee James and Doswell parring the last, it meant back down the 18th for a playoff.
After two slightly wayward tee shots from both players, Doswell went long of the green, while Lee James safely found the centre, leaving a tricky downhill 30-foot putt.
Doswell responded with a sublime greenside wedge shot that left him a three-footer and after Lee James uncharacteristically three putted, it gave Doswell the putt for the win, which he confidently holed, giving him his first title as a professional and the £1000 first prize.
