Fantasy Golf: Omega European Masters preview

The TG Fantasy Golf game is back on the European Tour this week with the Omega European Masters at Crans-sur-Sierre, Switzerland.

The course is perched high in the Swiss Alps and offers one of the most spectacular backdrops on the European Tour. The par-71 layout measures 6,881 yards but it plays quite short as the ball travels further at altitude.

The 10th, 12th, 13th and 17th holes of the Seve Ballesteros Championship course have been modified ahead of this year’s tournament, which has added more water to the course and toughened a number of approach shots.

Length off the tee isn’t an issue and accurate ball-strikers and short game and putting specialists tend to fare well here.

Here is TG’s six-man team for the Omega European Masters:

Jamie Donaldson, £1.9m
The Welshman withdrew from the US PGA Championship in his last start but recorded five top 20s in eight starts before that. He’s finished T3 and T9 here the last two years.

Matteo Manassero, £1.8m
The 20-year-old hasn’t been on great form since winning the BMW PGA Championship but he admits to feeling refreshed and reinvigorated after a short break recently and his short game expertise should do well here.

Miguel Angel Jimenez, £1.6m
The Mechanic has bounced back fantastically from the broken leg he suffered earlier in the year with five top 20s, including a couple of T4s. He has a great record at Crans, winning in 2010 and notching 10 top 10s.

Richard Sterne, £1.6m
Sterne sits in a lofty 4th position in the Race to Dubai thanks to a win and two second places this year. Finished T41 here last year.

Joost Luiten, £1.2m
Luiten is one of the form men on the European Tour with a win, a second and four top 11s in his last nine events. He’s 6th in driving accuracy and 9th in greens in regulation on Tour.

Brett Rumford, £0.7m
The Aussie has already won twice this season and finished T6 and T8 in his last two starts. He leads the European Tour in putts per round.
