Fantasy Golf: Wells Fargo Championship preview

The fourth event in the TG Fantasy Golf is the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Quail Hollow is a standard par 72 layout with four par 3s and four par 5s that measures 7,562 yards. The course is preparing to host the 2017 USPGA Championship and the tough set-up will give the players a Major test this week.

The scoring average of 73.043 made it the second hardest par 72 in non-Majors on the PGA Tour last year its fairways were the fifth hardest to hit off the tee (51.73%).

Hitting the greens is easier but the proximity to hole stats suggest easy birdie chances are few and far between. Accuracy from tee to green will be essential as it’s also the 10th hardest course on Tour for scrambling (53.90%).

Here’s Team TG for the Wells Fargo Championship:

Rory McIlroy, £5.5m
Rory is well on the way back to his best form and he’s recorded a win and seven top 10s in his last 11 tournaments worldwide. He won here in 2010, lost a play-off in 2012 and was T10 last year. He also holds the course record with a 62.

Lee Westwood, £3.0m
The former world number one followed a T7 at the Masters with a win in Malaysia two weeks ago. He’s finished T5 and T4 in his last two visits to Quail Hollow.

Jimmy Walker, £2.4m
He’s already won three times on the PGA Tour this season and he was a very creditable T8 on Masters debut in his last start. He finished T22 here last year.

Jim Furyk, £2.2m
Furyk has top 20s in his last four starts, including a T7 most recently at the RBC Heritage. Nine starts in this tournament have yielded four top 10s.

Kevin Na, £1.0m
Na had strung a run of 2-T14-T11 together before missing the cut last week. He was T14 at Quail Hollow in 2010 and solo 5th in 2011.

JB Holmes, £1.8m
The big-hitter is returning to form after brain surgery in 2011. A T11 last week was his fourth top 20 in his last five starts and he finished T9 here in 2011.
