Fantasy Golf: Wyndham Championship preview

Published:

The 2014 Fantasy Golf game returns this week for the Wyndham Championship at Sedgfield Country Club, North Carolina.

The Wyndham Championship marks its 75th anniversary this week and is a tournament that has a rich history that includes former winners such as San Snead, Byron Nelson, Ben Hogan, Gary Player and Seve Ballesteros. In fact, 17 former winners are members of the World Golf Hall of Fame.

This year’s tournament runs from August 14-17 at the North Carolina course which has a distinguished history of hosting one of the PGA’s longest standing events. Players will be put to the test on the Donald-Ross course which stands at 7,130 yards and is a par 70 track renowned for low scoring.

Here’s TG’s six man team for the Wyndham Championship:

Patrick Reed £1.5M
Reed (pictured) has had good season so far with a T4 finish at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and winner of the WGC-Cadillac Championship in March. Last year’s winner will be looking for a victory and is a contender for the top prize at Sedgfield.

Tim Clark £1.3M
Clark who won the RBC Canadian Open joins a number of 2014 PGA Tour winners to try and take the Wyndham Championship. A difficult season at best for Clark, but winning in Canada three weeks ago and a T5 finish at the John Deere Classic makes Clark one to watch out for.

Brandt Snedeker £3M
Snedeker returns to the Wyndham Championship this year having triumphed in 2007. Snedeker has shown some consistent form this year. Finishing T9 at the US Open and T13 at the US PGA Championship respectively.

Ernie Els £2M
Els enters this year’s Wyndham Championship on good form after the US PGA. It’s been a difficult year for the South-African with some poor performances. However, with a T7 finish at the USA PGA and finishing T12 at the RBC Canadian Open, the four-time Major winner has shown signs of his former self.

Padraig Harrington £1.6M
One of the biggest names in golf returns to the Wyndham Championship and will be looking for a piece of silverware. The winner of three Major championships will be looking to improve on some bad performances this season and find a return to his winning ways.

John Huh £1.1M
It’s been a difficult season for Huh with several disappointing finishes in recent tournaments, but with a T3 finish at the Barracuda Championships and the RBC Heritage, Huh has shown signs of a return to form. Huh has a good history in this tournament and is one to watch, but an ousider at best.
