Exclusive instruction from Justin Rose

Justin Rose won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans recently, and we have exclusive tuition tips from Rose to help you improve your game. Follow the links below to read his five keys to find every fairway, in his own words.

Get accurate – make it your cornerstone

Accuracy off the tee is a prerequisite for playing good golf. It’s a saying you hear a lot, but it’s so true: ‘You can’t play this game successfully from the rough’. You can scramble from the rough, but you can’t score, so finding the fairway off the tee on a regular basis is the first corner-stone to building a consistent game and getting your handicap down.

A lot of people have talked about the 4-iron I hit to the final hole at Merion last year, but the drive to find that spot in the fairway was equally important. Accuracy like that under pressure is a great asset and it comes from a mixture of experience and solid technique.

It’s always been a key of mine when under pressure to slow things down. It’s something that I’m sure most amateurs would benefit from as well. And I really mean, make a conscious effort to slow things up. I walked to that 18th tee at Merion more slowly than I would if I was walking to the clubhouse from my car. Under stress, everyone quickens up and tightens up. So what do I do? I make an effort to do the opposite. I slow up and loosen up.

Combine that to the five keys I’ve highlighted below and I’m confident that you can find more fairways this summer.

Justin’s five fairway-finding keys:

Relax and let it flow

Set the shoulders for accuracy

Make the first three feet perfect

Stay centred to hit low

Foot stamp for distance!
