Fantasy Golf Preview: WGC Bridgestone Invitational

2014 Fantasy Golf returns this week at Firestone Country Club with the WGC Bridgestone Invitational.

The par 70 South Course measures in at 7,400 yards and boasts a stellar field including Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and newly-crowned Open champion Rory McIlroy. Firestone CC has played host to the Bridgestone Invitational since 1976 and is one of the biggest tournaments on tour. One of four annual World Golf Championships, it offers a $1.5 million prize to the winner.

With plenty of FedEx Cup points on offer and a week before the last major of the season, many of the world’s top players are in the field and will be looking to hit some form before the PGA Championship at Valhalla.

Sergio Garcia £3.5m
After a second place finish at Hoylake, Garcia is in a rich vein of form and will be looking for a victory this week at Firestone. Leading the PGA Tour in scoring average and sitting 4th in greens in regulation puts Garcia in a good position to contend this week. He’ll be looking for a strong performance to help push towards winning his first major at the PGA Championship.

Jim Furyk £2.2m
Furyk will be looking to bounce back after losing out on the RBC Canadian Open last week to a charging Tim Clark so look for a strong performance this weekend. With a top-five finish at Hoylake, Furyk is in good form and will be looking to improve on his T9 performance at Firestone last year.

Martin Kaymer £2.4m
Wins at the Players Championship and the US Open showed Kaymer is getting back to his best and a similarly competitive field at Firestone could bring out the best in the German again. Embracing his natural fade, Kaymer will be full of confidence entering the tournament and will be hopeful of competing again.

Rickie Fowler £1.8m
With his characteristic all-orange outfit on Sundays, Fowler is one of the stars of the young generations of golf. With his only victory on tour coming two years ago, the 25-year old has finished in the top-five of every major this year and is close to another victory. We’ve seen he can contend in the big tournaments but can he come up big when it counts?

Jason Dufner £2.8m
In the middle of a year full of mixed results, Dufner can contend on a course where he has finished in the top-ten the last two years. He’ll be hoping to regain some of that form and secure a good finish this weekend.

Graham DeLaet £1.8m
The Canadian is long off the tee and second in greens in regulation on the PGA Tour this season and has the skills to tackle this tough course. A top-ten finish in his national championship last weekend can push him on to contend as we come into the final stretch of the season.
