Adam Scott splits with caddie Steve Williams

Adam Scott has split with caddie Steve Williams as the New Zealand bagman looks to go part-time.

In a statement from Scott’s management company, it was confirmed that the two would part ways after three years together, with the final round of the Tour Championship marking Williams’ last on the bag.

“Steve has been an integral part of my team in a period where I have fulfilled some of my lifetime golfing goals. Our priorities and stages of life are different now, and so we decided that this is the best time to end our partnership,” stated Scott in a release.

Williams turns 51 in December and has been public in his desire to work part-time next season. Following discussions the pair decided that would not work well with Scott’s requirements entering 2015.

Their partnership has been a successful one: since employing Williams in 2011, Scott has recovered from a dip in form to record four PGA Tour wins, become the first Australian to win the Masters with his maiden Major success in 2013, and reached World No.1.

Scott finished in the top-10 of eight of the partnership’s 15 Majors and hadn’t failed to make a Major cut since their first event – the 2011 US Open at Congressional.

Prior to his partnership with Scott, Williams had Williams caddied for Tiger Woods for 12 years, carrying the bag for 13 of the American’s 14 Major wins.

Williams, who will consider caddying on a part-time basis in the future, said in a statement: “Having caddied for the first Australian to win the Masters is a career highlight and a memory I will cherish forever.”

Scott added: “Steve’s dedication and professionalism have been without question, and his friendship is highly valued.”

Scott is yet to choose Williams’ replacement but is due to play the Japan Open next month before heading to tournaments in Australia.
