Jason Day wins BMW Championship

There seems to be no catching – or stopping – in-form Aussie Jason Day at the moment.

The Queenslander romped to BMW Championship victory at Conway Farms GC, Illinois, last night and literally had that top of the world feeling after finishing on -22, six shots clear of his nearest rival – he replaces Rory McIlroy (tied 3rd) as the World no.1.

Day’s blistering end to the season has seen him produce one remarkable performance after another and now is hot favourite when he heads to the 30-man, season-ending Tour Championship in top spot on the FedExCup points list, ensuring a win at East Lake would see him claim a $US10 million bonus.

But for the tough, ultra-confident Aussie it’s not about the money but records and victories such as the following…

*He’s become the third Australian to become world no.1 after Greg Norman and Adam Scott. “For our whole team lately it’s all been about reaching number one,” Day revealed.

*It is Day’s fifth title of the season, and continues his extraordinary run of results which have included his maiden major trophy, the PGA Championship in August.

*He’s won three of his last four PGA Tour starts.

*He joins Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh as the only players in the last 20 years to win that many titles in a season. Day has won four of his last six events, including the PGA Championship.

*At the BMW, he shot rounds of 61 and 63 at Conway Farms Golf Club to tie the record for a 36-hole score at 18-under par.

*Day is now a remarkable 101-under par in his last 27 PGA Tour rounds.

*He puts his amazing success down to sheer hard graft. “I’ve just had to work so hard. The mentality swung at The Open Championship. Something changed in my head, and I thought it’s my time to start winning tournaments.”
